ADDIS — Ianthia Washington, 72, has been identified as the woman killed Wednesday morning when a train struck her vehicle at a railroad crossing on La. 1 near the Dow Chemical plant, close to the Iberville Parish line.

The crash was reported just before 7 a.m. Washington was the sole occupant of the vehicle, according to the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office.

The WBR Parish Coroner's Office and Louisiana State Police also responded to the scene. LSP is leading the investigation. No additional details about the circumstances of the crash have been released.

Northbound La. 1 was closed while crews worked the scene. Southbound traffic remained open. Drivers were advised to use River Road as an alternate route.
