A hit-and-run in Port Allen led to a vehicle pursuit that ended in a sugar cane field near Brusly High School Saturday night, according to media releases from both the Port Allen Police Department and the Brusly Police Department.
Christian Gordon, 20, was arrested and transported to the West Baton Rouge Parish Correctional Facility.
At approximately 10:00 p.m., Port Allen Police were dispatched to a hit-and-run complaint in the area of LA Highway 1 and Avenue G. The offending vehicle fled the scene traveling southbound on LA Highway 1 toward the Intracoastal Bridge. Officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to stop for law enforcement.
Following a short pursuit, the vehicle entered Brusly city limits before leaving the roadway and crashing into a cane field across from Brusly High School on LA Highway 1.
Gordon was severely intoxicated at the time of the crash, recording a blood alcohol concentration of .182 — more than twice the legal limit for drivers 21 and older, and well above Louisiana's zero-tolerance standard for drivers under 21. He sustained moderate injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle after smoke was observed coming from it. The West Baton Rouge Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene.
Gordon was taken into custody without further incident.
He faces the following charges:
Following Too Close
Aggravated Flight from an Officer
Careless Operation
Open Container
OWI (Under 21 Years of Age)
Possession of Alcohol by a Person Under 21
No other injuries have been reported.
