Even with a lighter turnout than expected, the energy was strong and the mission clear at William & Lee Park on May 31: Stop the Violence.

Hosted by Tykisha Mason and Clerice M. Lacy, the Annual Stop the Violence Kickball and Adult Field Day brought families, community leaders, students, and volunteers together for a day of unity, remembrance, and positive community action. This year’s theme — “Kicking Violence Out Our Community” — set the tone for a summer of safety and togetherness.

The event featured youth and adult kickball games, a basketball court, a water slide, bouncy houses, music, free food, and a wide range of summer safety resources. Many attendees wore shirts in memory of loved ones lost to violence, turning the field into a space of both celebration and reflection.

“Our mission involves protecting our communities by setting the tone for a safe and enjoyable summer without violence and crime,” said Clerice Lacy. “We will still keep pushing to STOP THE VIOLENCE.”
