Cafe Oasis gets liquor license approval, aims for family-friendly atmosphere

BRUSLY — The Brusly Town Council approved a liquor license Monday night for Cafe Oasis, a new restaurant opening in the former Morales Grocery Store building at 947 East Main Street across from the park.

Owner Kimberly Paul told the council the restaurant serves "handhelds" including chicken, po'boys, burgers, and tenders, with two TVs showing sports and one for news.

"We are not opening a bar," Paul emphasized. "I want you to be able to come there, bring your kids and say I'm going there."

The restaurant received 30 orders during its first two days of operation, with only two customers asking for beer with their wings, Paul said.

Operating Details

Cafe Oasis will be open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday and Wednesday through Sunday, closed Tuesdays. The last food orders are taken around 9 to 9:30 p.m., though customers can stay to finish watching games if they run late.

The restaurant seats approximately 30 people inside with plans to add outdoor seating with chairs and umbrellas. The space features sports jerseys and memorabilia on teal walls, multiple TVs, and a mix of table and bar seating.

Students from local schools have already visited, along with office workers and community members. Paul said wrestlers from the school team came in excited about the new option.

License Requirements

The Class A beer and liquor license requires Cafe Oasis to maintain at least 60% of monthly revenue from food and non-alcoholic beverages, with alcohol sales not exceeding 40%.

The restaurant operates with a fully functional kitchen preparing fresh food, meeting state requirements for the license category.

Town officials will provide Paul with a copy of the ordinance outlining all requirements, which she will sign acknowledging receipt.

Community Response

Several residents attended the meeting to support the application.

"I hope you all approve it. I'm excited to go hang out and check it out," one resident said, noting he lives about four blocks away.

The council approved the license unanimously with no opposition.

The building previously housed Morales Grocery Store and sits directly across East Main Street from the town park. The location qualifies as restaurant zoning under town ordinances.

Editor's note: WBR Independent visited Cafe Oasis and tried the burger with bacon bits, lettuce, tomato, cheese, and mustard - well done and juicy. The fries were cooked to golden perfection. Everything was well seasoned.
