WBRSO: Check fraud investigation leads to multiple arrests, four still wanted
PORT ALLEN, LA — A West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office investigation has uncovered a check fraud scheme that targeted two local businesses, resulting in five arrests and warrants for four additional suspects.
Sheriff Jeff Bergeron reports the investigation began in early July 2025 after detectives identified multiple instances of fraudulent payroll checks being cashed at locations throughout the Baton Rouge area, including a local supermarket.
As the case developed, investigators determined the same individuals were responsible for additional fraudulent checks bearing the names of other businesses—all believed to be part of the same operation.
The investigation led to a search warrant at a Baton Rouge residence, executed with assistance from the Baton Rouge Police Department. Detectives seized multiple electronic devices, blank check paper, voided payroll checks that did not belong to any occupant, and other evidence consistent with check printing.
Investigators say the group is responsible for cashing approximately $10,000 in fraudulent checks.
