The West Baton Rouge Parish Council recognized the Westside All-Stars 15U baseball team Wednesday night for capturing both the 2025 USSSA State Championship and 2025 USSSA Regional Championship this past July.
Parish President Jason Manola presented the proclamation to the team, coaches, and family members who filled the council chambers for the ceremony.
"I think right there is a testament of why what you see there just is so important," Manola said as family members gathered around the young athletes. "And I'm so supportive of family members and all being present here tonight to receive such proclamation."
The dual championship marks the first state and regional titles earned by any age group within the West Baton Rouge Recreation Program since 2018.
The team was led by Head Coach Lee Davis, a Plaquemine resident with longstanding family connections to Brusly High School. Assistant coaches James Babin and Mark Younger rounded out the volunteer coaching staff.
Babin, a lifelong West Baton Rouge resident and Port Allen High School graduate, has devoted more than a decade to coaching youth athletes in the parish. Younger, an Addis resident and Brusly High graduate, provided additional leadership and mentorship throughout the championship run.
Team members included Ian Avants, Wynston Bell, Cohen Beasley, Aaden Jeanpierre, Holden Robertson, Chase Ware, Garred Butler, Michael Rothman, Michael Somme Jr., and Christopher McNair.
